A few months ago I decided to make the switchfrom “toxic” orconventional products to non toxic. I had done quite a bit of research and decided I would give it a try.
I started by switching my makeup products first and once I had that under control I switched my skincare.
But I still constantly get thequestion “why”? Why does it matter, what’s the difference?
For me there are a few different ways to answer these questions.
Rabbit hole of information!
I have always had a love for skincare and makeup so it’s a department I don’t mind splurging in, however, after experiencing one too many allergic reactions to “Luxury” productsI decided to do some research. After countless weeks of research I found myself scared to even use natural products. There is so much information out there when it comes to “clean beauty” and a lot of it is left up to you to decide what you consider toxic and non toxic.
After letting my brain process all the information I had found I realized I probably won’tdie early or anything like that from using synthetic products but there are plenty of scary things I don’t want seeping into my bodylike parabens or asbestos! And I wanted to put an end to allergic reactions!
There’s just something that feels comforting about knowing what is in your products and what their purpose is. Thanks to myresearch I now understand how certain ingredients can be disguised as safe and which ingredients I would just rather stay away from.
So, like I mentioned before, you can research a bunch of synthetic ingredients and find potential harmful side effects of a lot of them.
There’s the usuals suspects that brands loveeeeeto advertise that they don’t have (parabens, sulfates, etc…), but there’s actually so many more! If I’munsure about a products ingredients I’ll drop it tinto EWG to see it’s rating and how it affects the body + the environment.
Did you know the US only has 9 cosmetic ingredients banned? Meanwhile, the EU has like 1,300. So yeah, knowledge is definitely power. I think it’s important to understand why other countries literallyban ingredients, but they could still be popping up in your products here in the US.
It’s important to remember that there is also like 0 regulations in the US on what “clean’ beauty is so the choice really is yours. You can decide which ingredients you want to stay away from and which you are ok living with!
